Gibraltar Gaming Industry Under Attack

Gibraltar's gaming industry has once again come under attack as Lord Faulkner proposes for the advertising ban on online gaming sites to be extended to Gibraltar.

The call comes after reports that a locally based online betting company, Victor Chandler, had allegedly refused to provide details to the English Football Association over claims that four premiership managers had placed substantial bets on English matches.

The allegations have raised controversy in the UK, with some of the UK media describing Gibraltar's regulations as a "soft touch."

Calls for an advertising ban were rejected last year after the Gibraltar Government and the key players in the industry assured the UK authorities over the strict regulations which exist in Gibraltar.

A ban on other territories was not extended to Gibraltar.

In the meantime, Victor Chandler has been at the centre of further controversies in Europe as the French authorities attempt to ban gaming companies from territories such as Gibraltar from being used in France.

Although the European Commission has already warned France that they are in breach of European directives through their clampdown on the industry, the French Authorities recently arrested and questioned representatives from Victor Chandlers during the Arc de Triomphe race in Paris.
